Breaking Bread is More Than Just Eating

Food is an integral part of our lives and while you may not think about it, is vital to any successful event. It provides us with nourishment and sustenance, but it can also be a way to bond with the people around us.

When we share a meal with our colleagues, it can create a sense of togetherness and connection. The act of cooking and eating together is a powerful way to unite people and form a sense of community. It can be a way to celebrate, commiserate and just come together in general.

In previous careers, when I’d host community events, our planning teams would always reach the middle of a session and say, …and what will we serve? What kind of snacks should we have onsite? What will everyone drink when there? Should we include a seltzer water to mix it up this time? How about that trail mix from the local company that just launched?” These conversations can sometimes be swept the wayside, but your event attendees, clients, team members, etc will always be thankful you thought through the menu!

Food can also be a way to break down cultural barriers. When we connect over food, we learn more about each other’s cultures, backgrounds and beliefs. We can open our minds to new flavors and experiences, and in the process, gain a deeper understanding of the world around us.

Food is more than just sustenance; it’s a way to connect with others, create a sense of community and learn more about different cultures. The next time you plan a team dinner or think about taking , pause and take time to be intentional. You’ll be surprised at how much it can bring people together.
